Lent provides an opportunity for self-reflection. Traditionally, Christians have used the season to do things that help them to grow in faith. Our church, like many others, offers a Lent course each year to help us to engage with material that keeps us thinking about what our faith means to us, and helps us to grow as disciples of Jesus.
This year, our Lent course will focus on a wonderful, relatively short, book by former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. The book is called Being Christian and it is a thoughtful and accessible exploration of four essential aspects of Christian life: Baptism, Bible, Eucharist, and Prayer.
In his clear and engaging style, Rowan Williams reflects on how these four grounding elements of Christian practice shape our faith, deepen our relationship with God, and draw us into the life of the Church. Whether you have been a Christian for many years or are exploring faith afresh, this book offers rich insights and encouragement for the journey.
You are warmly invited you to join our Lent course, reading a chapter at a time before each session and then gathering to discuss 'Being Christian' together. Revd. Dave will lead the sessions and you have a choice of either Wednesday mornings at 10:30am in church, following the 10am Holy Communion service, or Thursday evenings at 7:30pm in church. Details are below. You can buy a copy of the book from online retailers or order one through the Christian book shop in town.
This is a great opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and share thoughts with others in a friendly and supportive setting. If you’d like to take part, or if you have any questions, please do get in touch. Revd Dave looks forward to journeying through Lent with you!

Press Reviews
This delightful short book offer fresh insights on four of the key pillars of Christian spirituality. . . . If you would welcome having yours eyes opened to fresh perspectives on familiar practices, you will be amazed at how many new ideas Williams is able to put into a book of barely 80 pages.
- Christianity
There are light touches of humour and irony, a striking freshness in the language and tantalizing hints of a vast hinterland of learning.
- The Tablet
A work of enormous substance, boiled down to eighty pages of gold dust . . . Buy it and read it. And then read it again. And again.
- Church Times
It is a privilege to enter into the mind of one of the most distinguished theologians of the modern age. . . The style is elegant and lucid, and the book, although written primarily for Christians,
will be interesting and helpful to those who are seekers after, rather than finders of, religious faith.
