We have a rich tradition of choral singing at St Augustine’s and until recently younger singers sang at the adult rehearsals and picked up choral skills there. This certainly worked for me as I joined the choir here at the age of ten and, until the age of 16, all of my choral singing and organ playing experience had come from St Augustine’s: this allowed me to progress ultimately to my position as the Organist and Choir Director today. However I did have some existing musical experience when I started as I learnt (and continued to learn) the piano and violin and I feel it is important to give this opportunity to all young people, including those with no singing or musical experience (or indeed little experience of church).
The new junior choir members had a great time preparing for their debut at our Christmas services last year. They sang wonderfully and now sing around once a month at our Sunday morning service In addition, we are using the RSCM’s Voice for Life scheme to teach singing skills and music theory. However, the junior choir is still in its infancy and are still looking to recruit new members.
Meanwhile, we have some new plans with regard to our adult choir and again, we are hoping to recruit new members. Please read about this on the adult choir page as it would wonderful to see some new faces joining us.
Please feel free to contact me if you want to know more about singing here at St Augustine's. If you are already an accomplished singer, or are just starting out; whether you want formal instruction or just want to sing occasionally, there are many opportunities for you here. Telephone me on 01702 586803 or on my mobile on 07930 493021 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org OR catch me after any Sunday service or at the practices ................... I look forward to hearing from you.
With all good wishes
Organist and Choir Director
