Since September 2011 Thorpedene Primary School has been affiliated to St Augustine's and to the Diocese of Chelmsford, the first such affiliation in the whole diocese. This informal link celebrates the existing way in which the school uses the resources of St Augustine's, and gives the school access to the wealth of experience that the Diocesan Board of Education has in areas such as religious education and collective worship.
Each week the vicar goes into the school to act as a volunteer classroom helper, and doing such things as hearing children read and working with them on their times tables. In addition he takes school assemblies, and the school uses St Augustine's for special services throughout the year. The school itself has a catchment area which covers the parish of St Augustine's, and has a website www.thorpedene.southend.sch.uk which will provide you with all you need to know about this school which was described by OFSTED as good, with an outstanding way of promoting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
